Hello fine folk, just dropped in to see how you're doing. I was inspired by NASS's recap of Steve Gaines' "Gideon" moment.

There are some striking parallels in the story of Gideon. Steve couldn't have picked a better analogy, actually. The account is found in Judges chapters 6-8.

1. Far from being an act of faith, Gideon's use of the fleece actually demonstrated his unbelief. (6:36-40)

2. After God gave him victory (chapter 7), Gideon goes beyond God's direction and pursues the fleeing Midianite kings while disregarding the welfare of his men. (Judges 8:4).

3. He asks his brethren (at Succoth and Penuel) to support the pursuit by providing bread. When they rightly question whether he should be doing this, he swears revenge. (8:5-9)

4. Upon his return, he gathers the names of all the leaders who dared question him, boasts of his victory and exacts revenge on them. (8:13-17)

5. In a show of pride, he tries to heap more shame on the captured kings by having his son, a mere boy, kill them. (8:20)

6. With false humility, he denies wanting to be king, but his request of tribute gifts says otherwise. The people bring him gold, jewelry and kings' clothing. He abuses these by making an idol that corrupts the people. Like a king, he multiplies wives and concubines unto himself and even names one of his sons Abimelech, meaning "my father is king." (8:22-31)

Anyone else see the parallels in the abuse of the flock, unlawful pursuit, loyalty oaths, punitive treatment of those who dare question, boasting of victories, proud displays, abuse of money, abuse of privilege, and generally being a law unto oneself? Is it any wonder he is called King Steve?

What I see is a parallel between you and your distorted image of Dr. Gaines. Your slaughter of God's Word is every bit as disgraceful as what you accuse him of.

The object of our study should be God, not Steve Gaines. I'll never understand why people such as yourself go to the Bible to seek ways to make a man look bad instead of seeking God.

I hope God will free you from your bondage and enable you to pursue Him with the same passion that you seem to enjoy using God's holy Word as a club to attack your enemies.

Best Wishes,
Keith Solomon

After this, the sanctuary was turned over to school officials. Among other things they made a strong push for the NEA, urging teachers to join. You may recall NEA's agenda includes support for abortion, homosexual marriage, nationalized health care, guaranteed housing and a host of other liberal causes including disproportionate contributions to Democrat candidates. This is what Bellevue now allows to be promoted from its pulpit? Is it any wonder scripture warns us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers?

My wife is a teacher as well, and she has quite a different story of what went on. Given the choice of who is telling the truth and who is a liar, I can emphatically say that I believe my wife over an anonymous, nebulous screen name who uses a witch doctor as the only face I'll ever be able to associate with him.

I'd be grateful if you would remove all references to the Lord Jesus from your person. A better screen name for you would be "all2me".

Jesus never chose to protect himself with shadows, but preferred to boldly expose himself to danger while depending on the father for protection. He wasn't afraid to take risks, or submit himself to the accountability of others.

You should follow his example, "christian".

Mr. Solomon,
You seem so very bitter. And calling someone else's wife a liar doesn't seem very Christ-like.

And as to all2jesus' picture which you seem to find so offensive...

Why is a picture of the Burger King any different?

Ya know, I clean forgot I even had this "blog" until OC mentioned it!

Solomon, I'm so sorry your ventings went unrequited, dear soul. I live to serve, brother.

You accuse me of slaughtering God's word, yet you do not say how. All I get is spleen. Gimme something to work with here.

I agree we should study God. Absolutely. Does that mean we should ignore ministers who abuse their flock?

My wife is a teacher as well, and she has quite a different story of what went on.

Really? And she says the NEA wasn't promoted?

Jesus never chose to protect himself with shadows, but preferred to boldly expose himself to danger while depending on the father for protection.

Danger, Keith? Care to clarify that?

My anonymity is simply to sidestep ad hominem attacks which only serve to deflect attention from the issues at hand. It's a time-honored tradition.

About my picture. It's just one that tickled my funny bone and the prospect of people having to wipe coke off their monitors amused me. But I guess you're right, it's time to upgrade my image. Where'd you get yours, off a pack of cards? Say, you don't know where I can find that clip art disc Bellevue uses whenever they need "members" for billboards and brochures, do you?
